 MEMBERSHIP AND FEES

 Open Bowling

Visitors are always welcome at the club.  Experienced bowlers may participate in open bowling sessions (see Hours & Location), and those new to the game may try it out with a member or one of our coaches (see Contacts).  Lessons are free and prospective members may play on a trial basis before joining.

While most bowlers own a set of bowls, beginners first use club bowls (at no charge) in order to try a variety of bowls and, eventually, to decide what suits them best.  No other equipment is needed, and dress is casual except for tournament play when whites or club colours are preferred.  Flat-soled shoes (low- or no-tread with no heel) are worn to protect the green.

 Membership Fees

Upon becoming a member of the CLBC, a one-time joining fee of $100 is assessed.  In addition to that annual fees apply as follows:

Playing Member (over 18) $ 160
 New Bowler - First Season
(including  joining fee)
$ 260
Junior Member (under 18) $ n/c
Social Member (no bowling) $ 25

 Membership Protection Policy

The Cowichan Lawn Bowling Club (CLBC) believes that members should enjoy a safe, comfortable, supportive, encouraging, and rewarding experience in both active and social components in the club.  All members should demonstrate behaviours that foster this goal.

Members demonstrating behaviours that result in discomfiture for others are subject to discipline and/or censure, as delineated in the constitution, by-laws, and policies of the club.  Players (or their guests) subjected to rudeness, intolerance, intimidation, or criticism should advise executive members and directors (the Board).  Offending members are subject to club policies regarding inappropriate behaviour.  Disciplinary procedures range from verbal and written warnings through temporary probation and, ultimately, removal from the club.

Concern for the personal well-being of members also includes policies that ban smoking (see Note 1 below) and prohibit pets within the fenced property; and that limit consumption of liquids on the green to non-alcoholic beverages.

-------------------------------------------------

NOTE 1: CLBC SMOKING POLICY

1.  Smoking is not permitted within the fenced boundary of the club.
2.  Players may not leave the green during organized play * for the purpose of smoking.

Members or guests in violation of this policy are subject to the procedures outlined above.

* Organized play is defined as:  activities planned and sponsored by the club for members and guests -- leagues, tournaments, competitions, jitneys, fun days, and evening and morning open draws.  (Pick-up games and practice sessions are not organized play.)
